"American Hate" Author Talk and Workshop for Educators

  • Thurgood Marshall Center 1816 12th Street Northwest Washington, DC, 20009 United States (map)

In American Hate: Survivors Speak Out, Arjun Singh Sethi, a community activist and civil rights lawyer, chronicles the stories of individuals affected by hate. In a series of powerful, unfiltered testimonials, survivors tell their stories in their own words and describe how the bigoted rhetoric and policies of the Trump administration have intensified bullying, discrimination, and even violence toward them and their communities.

In this free event, participants will hear from the author in conversation with Teaching for Change curriculum writer Alison Kysia, who will discuss teaching strategies for introducing this topic to middle and high school students. Attendees will engage in part of Kysia's lesson based upon American Hate. The first 50 educators to register and attend will receive a free copy of the book and a lesson plan.
