2026 Black History Month Panel Discussion by the Office of Human Rights

  • MLK Library 901 G Street Northwest Room 401D Washington, DC, 20001 United States (map)

Join the Office of Human Rights and panelists for a conversation about how the DC Human Rights Act, one of the nation’s most progressive civil rights laws, has turned historic marches into today's civil rights action!

Marches to Movements Online: How the DC Human Rights Act Protects Civil Rights Today

This panel discussion highlights how the Civil Rights Movement laid the foundation for the District’s own landmark protections, including the passage of the DC Human Rights Act of 1977. The same grassroots strategies—marches, sit‑ins, community organizing, and collective action—that transformed national policy also shaped local demands for comprehensive civil rights protections in housing, employment, education, and public accommodations.
