DCAESJ Call for Proposals

Thank you for your interest in submitting a workshop proposal to the DC Area Educators for Social Justice (DCAESJ), a project of Teaching for Change.

Please see our universal submission form to present at teach-ins and curriculum fairs, which center on themes of social justice, inclusivity, and equity for a pre-K–12 teaching audience.

Presenting Opportunities

We accept proposals on a rolling basis for the following pre-K–12 educator professional development opportunities:

  • Social Justice Curriculum Fair (August)

  • Native Knowledge 360* In-person Teach-in with the National Museum of the American Indian (September)

  • Teach Central America Week (October)

  • Native Knowledge 360* Virtual Teach-in  with the National Museum of the American Indian (November)

  • Black Lives Matter at School Curriculum Fair (January)

    • Black Lives Matter at School workshops and events (Year of Purpose)


Workshop Requirements

Workshop proposals must speak to one or more social justice topics and themes, including but not limited to:

  • activism

  • race/ethnicity

  • gentrification

  • environmental justice

  • dis/ability

  • immigration

  • incarceration

  • Black Lives Matter at School 13 guiding principles or national demands

  • Teach Central America

  • and more

Workshop proposals should present tangible components for educators, including but not limited to:

  • curricular resources and classroom strategies

  • theoretical frameworks that lead to praxis

  • culturally relevant and sustaining pedagogy

  • community-based education initiatives

  • interactive, engaging activities for students and educators

  • workshops aligned with the BLM at School 13 Guiding Principles and 4 National Demands (required for BLM at School events)

Sessions are typically 40–50 minutes and can be conducted in person or virtually via Zoom. If accepted, we’ll provide any necessary tech/logistical support.

A full session plan is not required at this time, but proposal outlines must include how participants will be engaged in meaningful, interactive ways.
